Steelers’ Martavis Bryant claims late hit from Colts DB was ‘definitely intentional’
August 30, 2017
Martavis Bryant was not pleased about the hit he received from Colts safety Matthias Fairley in the second quarter of the Steelers’ preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday.
The receiver said the late hit was “intentional” since he was already being brought down by Colts cornerback Vontae Davis.
As singer Andra Day performed the United States national anthem before the NFL season opener, Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall took a knee on the sideline.
Marshall was showing solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who chose not to stand during the national anthem before preseason games as a form of protest.
Kaepernick and Marshall were team-mates at the University of Nevada.
“While we encourage members of our organisation to stand during the national anthem, we understand and respect it being a personal decision,” the Broncos said in a statement.
Kaepernick is protesting for what he says is the oppression “of black people and people of colour”.
He says he will continue to sit until significant change in how police officers treat minorities occurs.
His stance has gained momentum with 49ers team-mate Eric Reid, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane and United States midfielder Megan Rapinoe all kneeling before recent games.
Kevin Durant has the last laugh after looking sour at the ESPYs
August 28, 2017
Game Womens Jimmy Butler Jersey Kevin Durant convinced everyone he was grumpy at the ESPYs when Peyton Manning roasted him, but the NBA Finals MVP is having the last laugh. Durant set the sports world aflame on Wednesday night when it appeared he couldn’t take a joke about joining a super team.
Honestly, this makes sense. It’s not dissimilar to the roasts during the beginning of the Academy Awards, when one actor is always cast as the overly upset one when the camera roams the crowd.
What made this work was how well KD sold it. Even with his mom next to him cracking up, Durant didn’t so much as smirk. He internalized it all and made everyone (including us) believe it was real.
Simmons is Tony Allen for a new generation, with less marketing genius. The Spurs have an advantage with restricted status, but someone could certainly sneak in there with a quick offer sheet as San Antonio attempts to make a big move. Paying Simmons $15 million a year seems like a huge risk given his lack of offensive punch.=
Hardaway has no lack of offensive punch. If Paul Millsap leaves the Hawks but Hardaway comes back, he could end up as Atlanta’s leading scorer! It’d be empty calories in large part, though: Hardaway isn’t much of a defender or a playmaker for others.

There’s a big risk that with a larger shooting load, his efficiency will crash. He’s shot quite well on two-pointers without drawing many fouls: that’s a volatile situation to be in. In addition, he already takes a high volume of threes. Any additional threes could be especially tough, and lower his long-range efficiency.
John Wall’s charity shows local kids they can find a way
August 26, 2017
David Johnson Authentic Jersey
On Friday, for the fourth year in a row the John Wall Foundation donated backpacks and school supplies to local children from first to eighth grades at the Rosedale Community Center in Northeast Washington. Every year, Wall steps into the community and donates free backpacks and school supplies to children in need in the surrounding community.
Normally the event is packed, and despite the sweltering heat, this year was no different. It was about 93 degrees in Washington, but there were children everywhere running around on the football field of the community center. They were going from booth to booth with painted faces, searching for any water to help them cool off.
For now, Brogdon doesn’t know if he’ll make a game-to-game protest a la Kaepernick’s knee.
What he does know, however, is he won’t let his athlete status pigeonhole him into speaking only about basketball. The thought of putting athletes in a bubble is absurd and implies they don’t have the educational background to comment on things outside of sports, he said.
Instead, he’s going to speak out and encourage other athletes to do the same.
I think it’s our duty. I don’t think it’s something we have a choice to do, said Brogdon. I think it’s our duty if you have the platform. If you’re comfortable enough, you should speak out. It’s the morally right thing to do.
The Raptors’ saving grace may be that few teams have needs at point guard and big salary space to lock up with a 31-year-old. Lowry’s worth a massive contract, but this might be the wrong year to maximize his earnings with more affordable options right behind him.

NBA expected to approve rules that limit rest for star players
August 25, 2017
Limited Mens Prince Amukamara Jersey In response to the growing trend of resting star players, NBA owners are expected to approve a new set of rules in September that would govern such behavior from teams and coaches, according to USA Today Sports’ Jeff Zillgitt.
The new rules would attempt to reduce times that teams rest healthy players, especially for nationally televised games and other highly anticipated matchups. NBA commissioner Adam Silver has hinted that the rules may involve not resting multiple stars during a single game or not resting starters on the road.
Contention between the NBA and teams has ramped up, along with the actual number of players who are rested during the regular season. Yes, it mostly applies to the teams at the top, which have the luxury of resting players. But those same teams have the biggest stars and the most nationally televised games, too. Five years ago, the NBA fined a team that rested players before thinking better of it. Now, it appears ready to take action once again.
So as we honor 25 years of this great team, it also made me wonder what other crazy Dream Team vintage items exist in the world today. Nineteen ninety-two was a bold time for design and pop culture, so I knew my results would not let me down. This isn’t a search for vintage jerseys — those are easy to find. We’re looking for other stuff.

Someone needs to be wearing this at a music festival as soon as possible. How often do you get this many legends on a jacket that looks like its made out of the same material they make tarps out of. Makes me wonder if these were stuffed inside actual Kellogg’s cereal boxes.
Marvin Jones and Lions teammates had an amazing double dutch jump rope touchdown celebration
August 23, 2017
The NFL eased up its rules against celebrations in the end zone during the offseason. Now, group celebrations, going to the ground, and using the ball as a prop will be allowed.
NFL is all set to ease up on celebration penalties, but still no twerking
Our first great group celebration came from the Lions, after a Marvin Jones Jr. touchdown. After his score, he pretended to double dutch with T.J. Jones and Golden Tate.
Hopefully players around the league take notes, and we get a league-wide competition to come up with the best group celebrations.
This is a shift toward making the NFL more fun, and that’s a step in the right direction.
As the featured team on this year’s season of Hard Knocks, the Bucs are getting the national TV treatment for their second preseason game. It will be televised on ESPN, with the Monday Night Football crew of Sean McDonough and Jon Gruden calling the action. Fans can stream it online at WatchESPN.
The Jaguars opened their preseason with a 31-24 win over the New England Patriots, thanks to a handful of massive plays from their second-teamers. Chad Henne hooked up with Keelan Cole on a 97-yard touchdown, while Corey Grant had a 79-yard score and Dede Westbrook pitched in with a 42-yard touchdown of his own.
Unfortunately, the team is dealing with more injury problems this week. Marqise Lee went down in practice with a high-ankle sprain and could miss the rest of preseason, while prized rookie Leonard Fournette is sitting out this game with a foot injury. The Jaguars selected Fournette with the No. 4 overall pick and plan to build the offense around him, so his absence will be felt. Fournette had nine carries for 31 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut last week.
Murray announced in 2014 that he had Stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his liver and lungs.

Despite his advanced age, Cullen played a vital role in bringing Pittsburgh back-to-back championships as a fourth-line center and trusted penalty killer. He’ll be missed in the locker room, too, which has thinned out quite a bit with the departures of Nick Bonino, Trevor Daley and Ron Hainsey this summer.
Add Cullen to that list.
It was probably the hardest decision I ever had to make to leave the Penguins, Cullen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It’s really hard to say goodbye. Pittsburgh has been a second home for us. It’s been the best two years of our lives as a family. Winning two years in a row … it makes it difficult to say goodbye.
Limited Womens Lanny McDonald Jersey Cullen, with 1,366 games under his belt, said he expects the 2017-18 season to be his last in the NHL — though he says that every year, he joked.
Michael Strahan Authentic Jersey NHL commissioner Gary Bettman released the following statement:
Bryan Murray’s strength and character were reflected in the teams he coached and the teams he built over decades of front office excellence. While his warmth and dry sense of humor were always evident, they were accompanied by the fiery competitiveness and determination that were his trademarks. As we mourn Bryan’s passing, we celebrate his many contributions to the game — as well as his courage. The National Hockey League family sends our deepest condolences, comfort and support to Bryan’s family, his many friends and all whose lives he influenced.
The greatest and most disappointing MLB Players Weekend nicknames, ranked
August 19, 2017
Now that MLB’s Players Weekend jerseys and hats have officially been revealed in advance of the end-of-August celebration, it’s time to start judging people. Lightly, of course, but judging is happening nonetheless.
We’ve already called out the players who decided not to use a nickname at all, since they clearly hate fun. (It’s also possible that the league refused to approve their nickname requests for one reason or another, but let’s just go with hates fun for right now.)
So this is the time to look through the entirety of the league’s nicknames and see who really stepped up to the plate here (baseball puns!) and who struck out looking. Below, the greatest and most awful nicknames from around baseball based on no real rankings system and put in whatever order I thought to put them in while writing this.
Justin Evans Kids Jersey Look, it’s only fair that the effort for this post matched the level of the effort players put in choosing their nicknames.
The Dodgers don’t have player with his own $495 shoe, a dad who screams about his son to anyone who will listen, or a reality show following his family … and that’s just the way they like it. Bellinger will never be that guy, instead likely making headlines only for his on-field play and lack of knowledge about 1990s sitcom stars.
Chris Clark Kids Jersey Though Bellinger may not get the reference, his talent is real, and it’s spectacular. So spectacular, in fact, that even he, as humble as they come, can sit back and admire it.
I don’t think in your wildest dreams you’d expect to be called up to the big leagues and have this kind of success, he said.
Clayton Kershaw could miss 4-6 weeks with back injury
August 17, 2017
Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw left Sunday’s start after just two innings with right lower back tightness, the second such season in a row that back issues have popped up for the left-hander.
Limited Kids Jonathan Drouin Jersey
Kershaw grimaced after throwing a breaking ball to Atlanta Braves catcher Tyler Flowers in the second inning, prompting manager Dave Roberts to run to the mound along with trainer Nathan Lucero. After a few questions and warmup pitches, Kershaw remained in the game, finishing the inning.
But he was pinch hit for in the bottom of the second, making Sunday his shortest start since May 17, 2014.
The ESPN part of the streaming service will feature about 10,000 sporting events each year and have content from the MLB, NHL, MLS, collegiate sports and tennis’ Grand Slam events, which seems to mean that the ESPN app and streaming service you know and love right now is getting a makeover and a shot of energy.
Will he get there? That’s the thing about pacing: just as easily as Stanton upped his pace, he can also see it drop. And he wouldn’t even have to be playing poorly for it to happen, as the 40-plus-homer pace he was previously on can attest to. What we do know is every dinger he hits sets a new career-high for one of the most prolific sluggers of his era, and that three homers from now, he’s going to reach 250 for his career amid his age-27 season, which is pretty great for anyone, never mind someone who has only averaged 120 games per season since becoming a full-time big-leaguer.
Limited Kids T.J. Lang Jersey
Stanton has special power that pitcher-friendly Marlins Park cannot contain, and it might be peaking right now. Chris Davis was the last 50-homer hitter in MLB, back in 2013, and before that, Jose Bautista went yard 54 times in 2010. We might not have to wait much longer for the next one in MLB if Stanton keeps this torrid pace up for even a few more weeks.
Charlottesville won’t change Eric Reid’s mind about standing for national anthem
August 16, 2017
49ers safety Eric Reid is sticking with his decision to stand during the national anthem this season in the wake of the racially charged violence in Charlottesville, Va.
Reid knelt with then-teammate Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem last season in protest of perceived racial oppression in this country, but he said in April he would stand this season since the protest’s goal of creating a national dialogue had been accomplished.
“It doesn’t change my plans,” Reid said of Charlottesville, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “It’s important to discuss the issues that we have in our country. I think it’s becoming more and more apparent. Maybe people didn’t see what the black community saw when me and Colin were doing our protests, and other players were doing (their) protests, last year. I think it’s more apparent now after this past weekend.”
In the meantime, Watkins is expected to get some reps in during the Rams’ second preseason game Saturday against the Raiders.
“He’ll be ready to play some plays,” McVay said. “Unless something changes, that’s our plan, is to get him a handful of snaps and get him some looks.”
Watkins, 24, was dealt from Buffalo to Los Angeles on Friday along with a sixth-round pick for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-rounder. He had four catches for 39 yards in the Bills’ preseason opener Thursday against the Vikings before being traded.
The No. 4 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Watkins had 153 catches and 17 touchdowns in 37 career games in Buffalo, although he missed 11 of the team’s last 32 games due to a litany of injuries.
Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and new Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, Bennett’s former Seattle teammate, sat during the national anthem before their teams’ respective preseason games this past weekend.
Jay Jaffe’s ‘Cooperstown Casebook’ is a must-read for Hall of Fame fans
August 14, 2017
Authentic Alfred Blue Jersey The list of must-read books about the Baseball Hall of Fame is small. For whatever reason, an institution that’s inspired numerous coffee table and picture books is short on novel-length books.
Entering this year, there were maybe four must-read Hall of Fame books. In the order of familiarity to fans, they are:
The Politics of Glory / Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame? by Bill James: The 1994 tome from the Godfather of Stats has been the gold standard for more than 20 years for analyzing who’s in and out of Cooperstown and looking at how some of the more dubious selections got there.
Authentic Stefen Wisniewski Jersey Even Todd Frazier had to tip his cap to Tigers right fielder Jim Adduci after he robbed Frazier of a home run in the sixth inning of Detroit’s 7-3 loss to the Yankees.
Davidson wasn’t the only one with walk-off heroics. Orioles left fielder Craig Gentry smacked an RBI single up the middle off Royals reliever Joakim Soria to lift Baltimore to a 2-1 victory at Camden Yards.
Players are expected to either return the items or repay the bookstore for the items, but it’s unknown if school officials will take any further action.
Any change to the composition of bases would fall under the auspices of the joint Safety and Health Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from Major League Baseball and the Players Association. The committee addresses health and safety issues as they arise and monitors the safety of working conditions for players.
Bryce Harper does not have any ligament or tendon damage in his injured left knee, but the Nationals All-Star is out indefinitely because of a significant bone bruise.
Boras suggested that MLB might want to look into the possibility of using a different base in wet weather.
