Jeff Van Gundy: ‘Nothing preventing’ Warriors from reaching 8-10 straight NBA Finals

LeBron James is headed to a seventh straight NBA Finals appearance, so there’s no reason not to think the Warriors can do at least one better with their superstar core, right?

According to Jeff Van Gundy, who will call the three-match between the Cavaliers and Warriors for ABC, Golden State is actually capable of reaching 10 straight NBA Finals.

According to Draymond Green, there is one player who, at the moment, edges out the other.

LeBron is a great player, but KD is great, Green said, via ESPN.com. I think KD is like a created player. If you create this player and you can do everything you want to do, you are probably going to create Kevin Durant. So, he’s special. Both of those guys are special.

One aspect to Durant’s success this season is how well-rounded he has been during these playoffs. He is averaging 26.9 points per game — less than two points behind Stephen Curry — and has defended James extremely well. James has only been able to score 12 points and has turned over the ball six times when Durant was on him.

Green said trying to be the best is not a goal either player is trying to achieve. What they both want is an NBA championship.

I don’t think either is out here playing for the title of best player in the world, he said. They are playing for a title. An NBA title.

I think that is the last thing on both their minds, Green added. Who is going to say who is better? End of the day, it doesn’t matter. If you don’t win, and someone says he is the best player in the world, what do you get from that? But you get a lot more from getting a ring. I think that is both of those guys’ focus. … I’d be willing to bet both of them would rather have a title than that title.
